What happens during a telemedicine appointment?

At the beginning of the call, your provider reviews your medical records and asks about your symptoms, including when they started, if they’re worse at certain times, and if they respond to at-home treatments.

Next, your provider conducts a telemedicine exam. If you have a cough, your provider might ask to hear it. If you have a stomachache, they might ask you to pull up your shirt and gently press on specific areas of your abdomen.

After gathering the necessary information, your provider makes treatment recommendations. Most acute health problems can be diagnosed with telemedicine, but if you need additional testing, like blood work, urinalysis, or X-rays, your provider might have you visit the office in person as well.
